I’m guilty of it. Looking for the next thing to do when I haven’t been asked to do anything. I’m looking for purpose in the doing. When really, my purpose is in being — being a child of God, adopted through Christ’s work on the cross on my behalf, brought to Him to love, honor, glorify, and worship Him. Isn’t that enough?
And yet, we are made to do, too. He gives us skills, talents, and resources. And He tells us to use them, invest them in His work to love others. And He multiplies through it.
So, how do we know what to do? In our worship of Him, with our eyes on Him, we see His sovereign hand and we hear His voice in His Word. And through the prompting of His Holy Spirit in our spirit, we find the work that He set for us to do before time. He charts the path, we follow, eyes ever on Him. We take no credit, and we work with joy for our Lord. One lamp flicker at a time.
Keep enjoying the written word, friends. It’s a gift!
